Antique French Toile Panel "The Miller"

285.00

This is a wonderful early red linen French Toile.  "Le Meunier, son Fils et l'Ane" translates to  "The Miller, His Son, and the Ass".  This is an 1806 French Copperplate toile de Jouy designed by Jean-Baptiste Huet.  It is illustrating one of La Fontaine's fables. This panel is backed with a very coarse linen homespun.  The toile piece measures 20 inches by 47 inches.  The side edges are finished, the upper and lower edges are not.  It is in overall very good condition for its age.  There is some very slight fading toward the bottom.  On the right just above the miller and his son the house is faded and the sheep to the lower left of the mule is faded.
