Here is a gorgeous Mariners Compass Quilt circa 1850-1900. It measures 86.5” x 92.5”. The top is comprised of 9 blocks made in the style of the Mariner’s Compass. The pieces are appliqued on top of background blocks measuring 23”x23”. Eight Lemoyne stars connect the 9 applique border blocks. Two exterior borders measuring 11.5” wide and two exterior borders measuring 9” wide surround the quilt withappliqied flowers and stems. Quilt top appliqued prior to the civil war.Back is three separate fabrics completed in 1900. Quilting is 7 stitches per inch. Quilt is in excellent condition.

Provenance: Calling crad attached to the back of the quilt with Mrs. Gehrels nams on it stating that the quilt was 135 years old and was being given to Ruby on her birthday in 1947.
