Whig Rose Trapunto Quilt ca 1850-60- $4700

Measuring 94" x 100" this beautiful quilt must have made the quilter proud. The roses are hand appliqued with three shades of red and pink surrounded by red and green buds. The alternating white squares are trapunto with two different floral patterns. There is a beautiful tulip swag border around all four sides. In two corners are tulips and in two are teardrops. The binding is green with red piping which was popular in mid 19th C. quilts. The hand quilting is 12 spi. Each rose block has a circular quilting pattern. The quilting around the swag border replicates the curve of the swag. And the quilting in the rest of the quilt is a straight cross hatch pattern. The back is all white as can be seen in the photo. There are a couple of places where the red is worn. We have photographed them for you to see.
