Chintz Strip Quilt

2,800.00 3,600.00

This quilt is amazing and huge!  It measures 124" x 128".  There are strips of chintzes divided by muslin strips that are heavily quilted.  The chintzes date to 1830-40 and still have their glaze.  Two of the brown chintzes have popping and have been conserved with a thin mesh to stabilize and prevent further damage.  Both of those are the two strips at the outer edges on each side of the quilt.  The one on the outermost edge is a figural chintz with a red zigzag border.  It is shown in the second photograph.  There are two significant "stains" in the white which I have photographed.  The largest is toward the bottom edge so really not very noticeable.  Because all of the chintzes still have their glaze I have not tried to clean the spots in any way.  The back is strips of two tan fabrics.  The quilting of the chintzes is most visible from the back.  It is bound with a tape edge that is in excellent condition all the way around.
