Blue and White Oak Leaf Scherenschnitte Applique' Quilt Circa 1890

This is such a striking quilt! The indigos are vibrant and the contrast with the white makes this excellent for a bed or for hanging. This looks to be done in the Pennsylvania paper cutting technique of Scherenschitte. The large oak leaf squares are 20” square. It is hand applique’d and hand quilted at a very even 7-8 spi. There are hearts and stars in the quilting which I’ve tried to show in the photos. The quilt is bordered with two stips of indigo on each side. The binding is turned front to back and stitched by hand. Condition is very good overall. There is one small spot in the white on the front which I’ve shown in the photos. There is also a small snag in the indigo binding which I’ve photographed. That one can probably be stabilized with a few stitches. The back does have several brown spots which I’ve also tried to show in the photos. This quilt has been freshly laundered so is ready for beautifying your home. The photos are taken on a king sized bed.

Circa 1890. 70” wide by 85” long.
