1886 Crazy Quilt

2,800.00

Here is an absolutely stunning 1886 crazy quilt.  In one corner there is an embroidered ribbon that says St. Louis Exposition 1884 and then below is dated 1886.  This quilt is made from silks and brocades pieced together and embellished.  There are a total of 49 squares and there are only two silks that have any damage, a pale green near the St. Louis Exposition and a blue that I've taken a close up of in the last photo.  The embellishments are fabulous in this quilt.  The techniques include embroidery, painting and applique.  This quilt includes some of the more desirable traditional elements including a flag (15 stars), spiderweb, anchor, fans, butterflies and flowers.  One of the more unusual ones is the stick figure in the third photo.  There is also a beautifully embroidered girl pulling up her stockings, a crown, a gorgeous cat and a pig!  The square with the pig also has the date 1886.  The quilt measures 70" square and that includes the 5" satin border.  The quilt is bound but not backed.  Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
