Welcome to Pique’Trouver(pronounced pea-kay true-vay).com  We chose this name because pique’ is French for quilted bedspread and trouver is a French verb meaning “to find”, with the implication of finding the treasure you‘ve been looking for.

Our journey into textiles began over 20 years ago.  We bought a quilt while we were vacationing in Delaware.  We brought it back to New England where we spent an afternoon with AQS appraiser Stephanie Hatch.  We learned so much from her that day, including that the quilt had fabrics from the 1700’s.  And soon we were hooked!  We spent days at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont and the Textile museums in Lowell, MA, learning about the history of textiles, studying the quilts in their collections.  We spent an afternoon at Mary Koval’s wonderful Pennsylvania home where she graciously shared her collections.  She suggested some reading materials and we got one of her catalogs which helped us start learning how to identify and date the fabrics we love.  When we went to the museums we would cover the cards describing the quilts on display and we would try to date them.  Then we would read what the museum said about the fabrics so we could learn even more.  What we discovered along the way is that all of these quilts, textiles, and linens really allow us to be time travelers.  We truly treasure what each piece teaches us about history, about women’s lives, about creativity and craftsmanship.

It is our hope to help you find your treasure.
