1853 Signed Quilt - $2,500

This is one of the most striking quilts we have seen in a long time. Squares of eight pointed stars measuring 8" alternate with 8" squares of brown, blue and red floral chintz. The points of the stars are all indigos. Using white muslin to complete the squares really makes this color pallette pop! The fabrics in this quilt are predominantly 1840's. It is signed Jane Luyster 1853. The brown chintz is fragile. The binding is the brown chintz and is frayed. There are also several areas along the edge where the brown has popped. The back is all one fabric, a tan and gold print. This quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted. The quilting is in both brown and white thread depending on what fabric is being quilted. The quilting measures 8 spi.
